Prep work- what to know before you get started.

Step 1 – Know your subfloor.

The subfloor is typically what is attached to your home’s floor joists and is the rough base layer beneath the final/finished materials (or in this case, what’s directly under the gym flooring). Commonly found and permitted subfloors for gym flooring include concrete, Portland-based patching/leveling materials, and wood. If your subfloor is made up of one of these materials, you’re in luck.

Step 2 – Have a contractor walk the project beforehand.

Architectural plans can tell us a lot, but not everything. It is important to have an experienced flooring installer (or even better, multiple) walk the project before getting a quote. They’ll be able to confirm your room measurements, point out any pinch points or pre-install requirements (such as potential floor leveling, moisture testing, etc.) and more.

Step 3- Get a takeoff done!

The last thing you want is a delay due to not having the right quantity of material. Forget to account for waste excess? What about that closet? A couple feet short of material could delay your project by days or even weeks. A takeoff helps with accurate ordering quantities and also with determining the best seam placements (which also impacts the ordering quantities). Most rolled rubber products will come in either 4- or 6-foot widths, so there will be seams in almost every room (lighter colors tend to show more than darker ones). Typically, you can lay the seams in different directions and a takeoff helps for a good visual in advance of ordering/installing.

We offer complimentary takeoffs with every one of our flooring projects! Minimum square footage applies.

Complimentary flooring takeoffs help with accurate ordering quantities and for the best seam placements.

Step 4- Time to quote

If you’ve checked the boxes above- it’s time for a quote! Our national wholesale pricing from industry leading brands and vendors will help keep your project competitive and within budget.

Side note– Intended use matters… If your clients are planning on doing Olympic style lifting (i.e. throwing weights around)- the right flooring becomes even more important. The good news is that gym flooring is available in different thicknesses and densities to help absorb some of that impact (and even protect your equipment). There are also weightlifting platforms that sit directly on top of the flooring for more protection.
